AWS Report Finds Philippine AI Adoption Up to 32 Percent as Skills Gaps Persist
Artificial intelligence adoption among Philippine businesses rose to 32 percent from 21 percent a year earlier, according to an AWS-commissioned Unlocking the Philippines’ AI Potential: 2026 Report presented on October 14 in Bonifacio Global City, TechSabado reported. Strand Partners surveyed 1,000 business leaders and 1,000 members of the public on adoption, outcomes, skills, governance and infrastructure.
Among firms already using AI, 74 percent reported productivity gains and 68 percent said revenue rose, with average revenue growth of 20 percent. Yet 57 percent of adopters are still experimenting, only 17 percent have a formal scaling roadmap, and just 12 percent report a comprehensive AI governance framework. Digital skills shortages topped the barrier list at 47 percent, ahead of technical and funding constraints.
Local case studies featured Store Genie at PLDT Home and Smart Communications, built with Amdocs on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, supporting more than 750 frontline agents across 149 locations and cutting some order and activation workflows from hours to minutes. Emapta is building an AI recruitment interviewer with AWS for a fourth-quarter launch, while Strato HCM reported sharply shorter software delivery cycles after adopting AI-assisted development practices.
What it means in practice
The headline adoption jump masks a thin middle: many pilots, few operating models. That gap matters for an economy that still leans on business-process outsourcing, where analysts say BPO needs agentic AI platforms by 2027, and for schools still using AI without strategy and training. AWS Philippines country manager Precious Lim urged firms to start from business problems, treat data and infrastructure as prerequisites, and measure value before scaling agents.
What to watch: whether the 17 percent with roadmaps expands in 2027, if TESDA and AWS training slots convert into deployable teams, and whether governance frameworks rise above the current 12 percent floor.
