Globe Says AI Delivered P1.2 Billion in Measurable Business Value, a 2.8-Times Return

Globe Telecom says its artificial intelligence projects have produced P1.2 billion in measurable business benefits, Philstar.com reported on October 19. The figure, counted as of August 2026 across generative AI and AI and machine-learning initiatives, works out to a 2.8-times return on the company’s AI investments under its own initial enterprise measurement.

Commercial and customer projects made up the biggest share, generating more than P825 million in incremental revenue. Globe uses AI to tailor offers and experiences across Globe Rewards, roaming, lending and postpaid services. Another P368 million came from realised cost avoidance in finance, customer engagement, marketing technology and order management. Productivity and automation saved more than 52,000 work hours, which the company values at P28 million.

President and chief executive Carl Cruz said the real measure of AI is not how many people use it but what it actually improves, and that Globe is putting more discipline into measuring the value it creates. AI adoption inside the company reached 90 percent in August, and its internal community of AI builders has grown to more than 450 employees, so teams outside dedicated technology units can build their own solutions.

What it means in practice

Few Philippine companies publish AI returns in peso terms, so the numbers give boards a rare local benchmark. They invite comparison with PLDT’s report of faster operations from three agentic systems and sit against national data such as the AWS finding that Philippine AI adoption has reached up to 32 percent. They also build on Globe’s expansion of its AI and digital stack for ASEAN business.

The caveats are clear. The figures are self-reported, based on an initial internal methodology, and have not been independently audited; revenue attribution in particular can flatter AI when customers would have bought the offer anyway. Still, a telco that ties AI to revenue, cost and hours saved, rather than to licence counts, offers a useful template for Philippine banks, retailers and BPO firms under pressure to show returns.

What to watch: whether Globe discloses its methodology or has it reviewed externally, how the figures move in its full-year results, and whether competitors respond with comparable peso-denominated disclosures.
