Google Launches Free AI Educator Series With DepEd, CHED and TESDA

Google Philippines has partnered with the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education and TESDA to offer free artificial intelligence training for Filipino educators, Newsbytes reported on October 14. The Google AI Educator Series delivers self-paced modules of 15 to 45 minutes on classroom use, administration, research and problem-solving, with digital badges as teachers complete units on privacy, academic integrity and responsible AI.

Lessons introduce Gemini’s Guided Learning for Socratic tutoring and Deep Research for thesis-scale inquiry, alongside prompt engineering. DepEd has hosted the series on its Bureau of Learning Delivery Hub since September 28, with a joint circular expected to endorse it nationwide and NEAP accreditation eyed for CPD units tied to Professional Regulation Commission licence renewal. CHED plans an advisory framing the series as optional professional development aligned with Memorandum Order No. 21 of 2026 on responsible AI in higher education, while TESDA embedded the modules in its free Online Program.

Country manager Prep Palacios cast the launch as part of Google’s push to train one million DepEd educators, emphasising shorter practical lessons that cut administrative load without displacing teachers from pedagogy and human interaction.

What it means in practice

Teacher upskilling lands beside adoption data such as AWS’s finding that Philippine AI adoption has reached 32 percent while skills gaps persist and productivity arguments in the World Bank view that wider AI adoption and higher-value BPO could lift productivity. Infrastructure bets like DICT’s $34.4 billion AI infrastructure masterplan will matter little if classrooms lack staff who know when to trust, challenge or override model output.

School heads should pair the free modules with local academic-integrity policies before students flood Gemini with take-home work. CHED institutions should treat the advisory as a floor, not a ceiling, for faculty AI literacy.

What to watch: the DepEd joint circular and NEAP CPD decision, TESDA completion numbers on the Online Program, and whether Google publishes regional uptake beyond Metro Manila.
